When your heart (or pride) encounters Leonard...

As you know, Leonard deliberately stays away from things like politics and eschatology, not because he is ill equipped (he knows his bible) but because he just doesn’t care; they are a distraction. If you draw him into to what he calls a “fleshy” debate, he quickly leads the discussion back to God, Love, Repentance, Salvation, etc.

#1: Mike and I were discussing “important” issues like the future of mountain etc. one night while Leonard rested nearby (he could not hear us...?). Suddenly, Leonard stood up, announced he was turning-in, but first stopped by our table...

Len: “I just wanted to share something with you, if that’s okay?

Us: “Sure, of course!”

Len: “You know the bible says, God values one lost soul more than all the souls in the world! (punctuated with a “Leonard giggle”) Isn’t that beautiful?”

Mike and I just looked at eachother, humbled, as Leonard turned and walked off to bed.

In Luke 13, folks came to Jesus with a horrific tale of murder and wanted Jesus to give them a “why do bad things happen to good people” explanation. Jesus cut straight to the point and said, “But, unless you repent, you will perish.” Leonard has done this kind of thing to me many times. He is so focused on what’s important AND WHAT’S NOT, it can be unnerving... that’s true wisdom.

#2: This is my son Jacob with Leonard March of '10. Jacob wasn't to sure about me hauling him all the way out to Slab City to see a mountain dedicated to Jesus. See we are Jewish, and Jacob has some pretty set ideals... By the time Leonard was done talking to Jacob he didn't want to leave! He LOVED the place, as did we all. It speaks across faiths, and cultures, which is truly a gift from GOD...
